Regular slider followed by normal sections desired

I am trying to do two things.
1) Just use the slider in the home page without the boxes jutting into the slider. And 2) I don’t like that the second section cannot be longer and is constrained by the height of the container that holds the slider. How can I just get a slider on the home page and then simply have normal sections underneath? I want a normal flowing section under a slider. I do not want to have to set a height for a whole section that is comprised of a slider and a section under it.

When I tried adding text under the slider, it got cut off because you place a hard height on the container. Again: What I want is a slider and then regular sections underneath the slider.

I just purchased the Travel theme, but if I can’t do what I described, then it’s useless to me. Thank you for your help!
